The Show Must Go On...Line

Donal O'Connor, John McSherry & Sean Og Graham - Ulaid

You're invited to join us online on Saturday 11th July 2020 from 6pm for a very special e-Festival event featuring all of the musicians and a host of dancers who were due to perform at next weekend's traditional music and dance festival which, sadly, was cancelled due to Coronavirus.

The show, which will be broadcast on social media channels, features performances by local piper Karen Keenan, Alexander Levack (BBC Radio Scotland's Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2020), Cameron Nixon (BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2020 Finalist), The Sarah Markey Band, Damien O'Kane & Ron Block, Gráinne Brady and Ulaid, along with Highland dancing from some of the many young dancers who were due to compete at this year's Scottish highland dancing competition.

If you're missing live music, tunes and songs with friends and family as much as we are then we hope that it will bring some light to your weekend, next week, and make up, in some small way, for the cancellation of this year's festival which was a heartbreaking decision for us to have to make this year, but the right one.

The event will be free to view however we will be running a JustGiving campaign alongside the broadcast, and for a month or two afterwards, to raise funds for next year's festival so we hope you'll all dig deep and do what you can to support this fantastic community project.

We'll have more details available through the week so please stay tuned.

Outstanding sponsorship support from Five Kingdoms Brewery

Serving local produce ensures that the project supports local businesses and the local community. A huge favourite are the beers from Five Kingdoms Brewery which are brewed in Isle of Whithorn. We are hugely grateful to Alastair and his team for their very generous support for this year's festival.

Workshops at this year's festival

With so many outstanding musicians in Newton Stewart this weekend it would be foolish not to take full advantage, and we've done just that with a superb programme of traditional music workshops which are included as part of the Weekend Pass ticket, £10 per adult or £Free for under 25s.

Highland dancing competition unable to go ahead this year

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of this year's Highland dancing competition at Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival. Continued funding cuts have meant some very difficult decisions have had to be made, however we do hope to bring this back in 2025.
