Rachel Hair & Ron Jappy

Delighted to announce that we'll have outstanding Scottish harpist, composer and tutor Rachel Hair and guitarist / multi-instrumentalist Ron Jappy teaching and performing on Saturday 13th July 2019 at the 6th annual Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival!

More intimate than a band, Trad duo, Rachel Hair & Ron Jappy, embody a special chemistry.

Purveyors of Scotland’s most ancient and contemporary instruments (clarsach, Gaelic for Scottish harp, and acoustic guitar, respectively) these two halves created a whole in September 2017: a subtle ying-yang between spine-tingling clarity and virtuosic drive.

From snappy Strathspeys to heartfelt airs, from rip-roaring reels to chirpy jigs – theirs is the perfect synthesis of the modern and the traditional.

As individual musicians, the award-nominated dyad (hailing from the north of Scotland) spread their influence far and wide across the globe. As a pairing who tailor each performance to the needs of their audience, no corner of the world will go untouched by their rootsy charm.

Workshops at this year's festival

With so many outstanding musicians in Newton Stewart this weekend it would be foolish not to take full advantage, and we've done just that with a superb programme of traditional music workshops which are included as part of the Weekend Pass ticket, £10 per adult or £Free for under 25s.

Highland dancing competition unable to go ahead this year

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of this year's Highland dancing competition at Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival. Continued funding cuts have meant some very difficult decisions have had to be made, however we do hope to bring this back in 2025.
