Festival trailer at Newton Stewart Cinema

Now showing at the best community cinema in Scotland, we'd like to say a huge thank you to Newton Stewart Cinema for running the festival promotional film as one of their trailers throughout June/July. We got a sneak peak this morning and it's brilliant seeing it on the big screen. Wow!

The festival trailer features footage from the  2016 and 2017 festivals and was filmed by students from our film making workshops and work experience programmes with support from Cree Studio, a partnership project between Dumfries and Galloway Council and Turning Point Scotland which provides personalised learning and development opportunities in music and short film production for people with learning disabilities and/or autism spectrum conditions, and Sean Williams at Airborne Ltd who were our official film makers in 2017.

You can catch the trailer throughout June at any of the films showing at the cinema starting tonight, Friday 8th June from 7pm, with Deadpool 2 which runs until Thursday 14th June and then I Free Pretty and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which run later in the month.

Thanks again to everyone at Newton Stewart Cinema.  The festival is a real community effort so we're thrilled to have the support of another local community group.

Outstanding sponsorship support from Five Kingdoms Brewery

Serving local produce ensures that the project supports local businesses and the local community. A huge favourite are the beers from Five Kingdoms Brewery which are brewed in Isle of Whithorn. We are hugely grateful to Alastair and his team for their very generous support for this year's festival.

Workshops at this year's festival

With so many outstanding musicians in Newton Stewart this weekend it would be foolish not to take full advantage, and we've done just that with a superb programme of traditional music workshops which are included as part of the Weekend Pass ticket, £10 per adult or £Free for under 25s.

Highland dancing competition unable to go ahead this year

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of this year's Highland dancing competition at Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival. Continued funding cuts have meant some very difficult decisions have had to be made, however we do hope to bring this back in 2025.
