MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards

The MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards are open for nominations and if you've enjoyed and/or benefitted from the Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival we'd really appreciate your support with a nomination for Community Project of the Year and/or Event of the Year.

The MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards highlight Scotland's wonderful traditional music in a high profile awards ceremony that, this year, will take place at The Lagoon Centre, Paisley, on Saturday 2nd December.

You have until Friday 13th October to cast your vote and we'd really appreciate it if you would consider nominating Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival in either the Community Project of the Year, sponsored by Gordon Duncan Memorial Trust, or Event of the Year, sponsored by VisitScotland, categories or you could of course nominate the festival for both!

The Community Project of the Year award is for the traditional music project that best serves your community and the Event of the Year award is to recognise the traditional music event/festival in 2017 which was best organised, most welcoming, had the best or most discerning audiences.

Also in the list of categories is the Scots Trad Album of the Year 2017 which is determined by a panel of industry experts and our very own Aaron Jones with his band Old Blind Dogs and their latest release “Room with a View” have been nominated in the top 20 longlist for this award so please do get nominating and let's make it a year to remember for Dumfries & Galloway!

You can nominate online at the following address www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/tradawards2017 or simply click the button below.

Thank you for your support!

Outstanding sponsorship support from Five Kingdoms Brewery

Serving local produce ensures that the project supports local businesses and the local community. A huge favourite are the beers from Five Kingdoms Brewery which are brewed in Isle of Whithorn. We are hugely grateful to Alastair and his team for their very generous support for this year's festival.

Workshops at this year's festival

With so many outstanding musicians in Newton Stewart this weekend it would be foolish not to take full advantage, and we've done just that with a superb programme of traditional music workshops which are included as part of the Weekend Pass ticket, £10 per adult or £Free for under 25s.

Highland dancing competition unable to go ahead this year

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of this year's Highland dancing competition at Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival. Continued funding cuts have meant some very difficult decisions have had to be made, however we do hope to bring this back in 2025.
