Culture & Business Fund Reception at Parliament

We were thrilled to be invited to Holyrood for a Parliamentary Reception to celebrate the Culture & Business Fund and the fantastic sponsorship the festival received from Creebridge House Hotel which, combined with the Scottish government backed fund, has helped the festival develop and grow.

The Culture & Business Fund Scotland enables businesses and arts or heritage organisations to come together and build effective, sustainable partnerships, bringing creative projects – large and small – vividly to life.

Funded by the Scottish Government via Creative Scotland and Historic Environment Scotland, and managed by Arts & Business Scotland, the CBFS provides critical £ for £ match funding – making the journey from a great idea, to a great project, possible.

Creebridge House Hotel supported us with an in-kind donation towards our costs which we were able to £ for £ match with funding from the Culture & Business Fund , effectively doubling up the support we received!  Not only did that give us some breathing space in terms of our costs but it also allowed us to bring bigger named acts in that year and fund the fantastic promotional film that Airborne Ltd & Cree Studios created for us which you can view here.

The Scottish Parliament building is outstanding and we were thrilled not only with the wine and canapes (!) but also to be featured in a short film, created by Arts & Business Scotland, to showcase business and cultural partnerships successfully created during the first year of the Culture & Business Fund Scotland programme which you can enjoy below (we feature at around 6:19sec).

Outstanding sponsorship support from Five Kingdoms Brewery

Serving local produce ensures that the project supports local businesses and the local community. A huge favourite are the beers from Five Kingdoms Brewery which are brewed in Isle of Whithorn. We are hugely grateful to Alastair and his team for their very generous support for this year's festival.

Workshops at this year's festival

With so many outstanding musicians in Newton Stewart this weekend it would be foolish not to take full advantage, and we've done just that with a superb programme of traditional music workshops which are included as part of the Weekend Pass ticket, £10 per adult or £Free for under 25s.

Highland dancing competition unable to go ahead this year

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of this year's Highland dancing competition at Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival. Continued funding cuts have meant some very difficult decisions have had to be made, however we do hope to bring this back in 2025.
