Scottish Charity Regulator OSCR

On the 8th August 2018 we were delighted to receive news from the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) that our application for Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) status had been approved under the new name of the Trad Music Trust SC048610.

The organisation’s purposes are:

4.1. the advancement of education in traditional music, dance and language by encouraging, supporting, delivering, developing and promoting traditional music, dance and language learning and education through a range of workshops, talks, training days and other educational events and opportunities;

4.2. the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended;

4.3. the advancement of the arts, heritage and culture of Scotland and other Celtic nations;

Over the next few weeks we'll be posting details of how you can become a member and help support the work of the Trust.  We have ambitious plans for the future and we hope, with our new charity status confirmed, that we can secure funding to continue the tremendous work the organisation has carried out over the past 5 years in delivering outstanding traditional music projects in Wigtownshire, Dumfries & Galloway.

With your help and support, through a strong membership of traditional musicians, music lovers and those with a dedication to, and support for, projects in the Wigtownshire region of Dumfries & Galloway, the outstanding work of the Board of Trustees, our volunteers, friends and families, we hope to deliver a programme of regular traditional music, dance and language tuition for young and old in the Wigtownshire region as well as the continuation of the annual Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival which is now Internationally recognised as one of Scotland's leading traditional music, dance and language festivals.

Outstanding sponsorship support from Five Kingdoms Brewery

Serving local produce ensures that the project supports local businesses and the local community. A huge favourite are the beers from Five Kingdoms Brewery which are brewed in Isle of Whithorn. We are hugely grateful to Alastair and his team for their very generous support for this year's festival.

Workshops at this year's festival

With so many outstanding musicians in Newton Stewart this weekend it would be foolish not to take full advantage, and we've done just that with a superb programme of traditional music workshops which are included as part of the Weekend Pass ticket, £10 per adult or £Free for under 25s.

Highland dancing competition unable to go ahead this year

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of this year's Highland dancing competition at Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival. Continued funding cuts have meant some very difficult decisions have had to be made, however we do hope to bring this back in 2025.
