MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2023

Nominations are now open for the 21st MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards so if you enjoyed this year's festival, we'd really appreciate a vote for Event of the Year, Community Project of the Year or Venue of the Year. Finalists in 2022 for Event of the Year...can we go one better this year?

The nominations and voting processes are in two stages. This nomination stage will close on Sunday 15th October with the voting period opening online on Monday 6th November until Sunday 19th November.

It will be a brilliant night in Dundee's Caird Hall on the 2nd December and it would be fantastic to represent Newton Stewart & Minnigaff again at this prestigious awards ceremony, celebrating the very best in Scottish traditional music, arts, culture and heritage.

If you enjoyed Elizabeth Davidson-Blythe, Daniel Quayle, Ciaran Ryan Band, Amy Laurenson Trio, Flook, Jenn Butterworth & Will Pound, HEISK, Jim Bainbridge, Nashcroft, The Barrstools, the solo piping and Highland dancing competitions, not to mention the incredible sessions all weekend, then please nominate today!

You don't have to vote in every category, simply jump to the category you'd like to submit a nomination for, and then click through the form until you're finished.

A huge thanks to everyone who attended the festival this year, which continues to go from strength to strength despite some difficult challenges over the past 3 years.  That success is down to you - the people that continue to attend and support live events in Scotland - and we are very grateful to you for your incredible support and backing.

Workshops at this year's festival

With so many outstanding musicians in Newton Stewart this weekend it would be foolish not to take full advantage, and we've done just that with a superb programme of traditional music workshops which are included as part of the Weekend Pass ticket, £10 per adult or £Free for under 25s.

Highland dancing competition unable to go ahead this year

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of this year's Highland dancing competition at Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival. Continued funding cuts have meant some very difficult decisions have had to be made, however we do hope to bring this back in 2025.
