Dayydream + Loup Havenith

Dayydream started as the project of Chloe Trappes, a music and visual artist based in Glasgow, Scotland. Her 2022 debut EP ‘Bittersweet’ received a plethora of support. Loup Havenith is a Belgian-born, Glasgow-based musician and songwriter who has been making waves with a series of releases.

Dayydream started as the project of Chloe Trappes, a music and visual artist based in Glasgow, Scotland. Her 2022 debut EP ‘Bittersweet’ received a plethora of support; featured on Bandcamp’s New and Notable, received radio play from KEXP, Soho Radio , with reviews from SNACK and Get In Her Ears - who featured ‘Bittersweet’ on their Best of 2022 EP list. Since the release of ‘Bittersweet’, the project has taken on new members and a fuller sound, with the addition of bassist Dillon Salvi (Sunny) and Loup Havenith (Elephant in Red, No Soap). Dayydream blends dream-pop, shoe-gaze and folk, layering atmospheric instrumentals with razor-sharp vocal melodies and lyrics to cut through.

Loup Havenith is a Belgian-born, Glasgow-based musician and songwriter who has been making waves with a series of releases starting with EPs BRING YOURSELF TO COMPLETION (self released, 2021) and big (heavenly creature records/dead hound records, 2022), followed by singles Silver (2022) and Honey (2023). Performed for the last two years under the acronym Elephant in Red, Loup Havenith’s music situates itself in a lineage of independent rock, low fidelity sounds, alternative acoustic/electric and slowcore, melodies overlapping and harmonising in the style of Neil Young, Sparklehorse and Elliott Smith, or more recently, MJ Lenderman.

Championed by For the Rabbits, Various Small Flames, The Skinny, Mindi.es, Secret Meeting, The Scotsman and more, Loup Havenith and his band have sold out their Scottish headline shows, supported The Cleaners from Venus at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Glasgow in April, as well as linking up with Spang Sisters for their Shacklewell Arms headline in London last year. Fueled by a successful Creative Scotland funding application, Loup Havenith recorded their third EP on 16-track tape at the Green Door Studio with drummer/producer Chris McCrory, studio engineer Ronan Fay, bassist/No Soap associate Fin Logie, and guest musician Alex Gyllos.

We’ve recently launched DIY label and promotions collective No Soap (nosoap.world) with NS001, an inaugural 4-band digital and tape release with songs by Loup Havenith (f.k.a. Elephant in Red), Dayydream, spinney and Wild Cabin. Self produced with analog techniques, it was featured by Monorail Music, played on NTS radio and became EHFM’s album of the week, with an initial run of a hundred tapes sold and shipped worldwide. We’re now excited to bring you Loup Havenith’s third EP, Understand.

The collection of 5 songs captures the group at a peculiar point, tangled up in post-everything haze. Modernity becomes a landscape of loneliness which beckons songs of desolate places and vast distances, the slow hooks capturing a certain unease of the times. First single Good Grief weaves keyboards and guitars into a sardonic ballad, with piano contributions by guest musician Alex Gyllos. Second and final single, Go downtown, leans into the slow doom, its skeletal arrangements highlighting the poignancy of the lyrics. Loup Havenith and his band will play a string of shows in Scotland and England in December, culminating with a headline at Stereo in Glasgow on Friday the 13th of December, with support from Jordan Playfair and Even Sisters (Isobel Mckenna + Robert Dallas Gray).
