Learn harp with one of Scotland's most respected harpists, composers and tutors Rachel Hair. Harps will be provided and all levels, ages and experience are welcome.

Have you always wanted to have a go of the harp but never had the chance to? Well this is your chance at last! You'll learn the basics and even a wee tune with one of Scotland's most respected harpists, composers and tutors Rachel Hair.  No experience necessary, all ages welcome and harps provided thanks to support from the www.niftyharps.scot.

From the Highland village of Ullapool, a prominent performer in the Scottish Traditional Music scene and a much sought after performer, composer and tutor of the lever harp, Rachel has released 5 critically acclaimed albums and toured extensively throughout Europe, the USA and beyond.

Now based in Glasgow, a Scottish city renowned for its melting pot of musical and cultural style, Rachel is passionate about promoting the harp, Scotland’s most ancient instrument. She strives to open up fresh horizons for it, removing it from its stereotypical, stuffy ballroom image, whilst always remaining true to her Highland roots.

As well as performing as a soloist, Rachel currently performs in a duo with Scottish acoustic guitarist Ron Jappy.

6th annual music festival

The 6th annual Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival will take place over 12th-14th July 2019 and, after another outstanding programme of events in 2018 which saw us hosting Scottish Highland Dancing competitions and, as ever, some of the biggest names in traditional music, it looks set to be another packed programme and is really living up to it's reputation as one of the best rural arts festivals in Dumfries & Galloway.
