Dumfries & Galloway Life Awards

With the closing date for nominations fast approaching on Monday, September 3, 2018 we hope you'll spare a couple of minutes of your time to nominate Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival for a Dumfries & Galloway Life Award this year.

This year saw the 5th annual Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival taking place throughout the towns of Newton Stewart & Minnigaff over 6th-8th July 2018 and, again, it was a hugely successful event with visitors travelling from all over Scotland, Ireland, the UK and abroad, including the USA & Canada.

That the project has delivered successful events for 5 years now is incredible work which can be credited directly to those who give up their time to work, voluntarily, on the organisation's management committee.

The event delivered concerts, workshops, tune and song sessions, highland dancing competitions and pipe band performances delighting audiences over 3 packed days of traditional music, dance and language events.

The Dumfries & Galloway Life Awards aim to recognise the work local people and local organisations do to make Dumfries & Galloway a success.  There are several categories available for nomination this year but we're probably best suited for one of the following:

Voluntary Group/Charity
For voluntary or charitable groups dedicated to making a difference to life in Dumfries & Galloway.

Community Project
For projects and initiatives which make a difference to life in a community. Schemes could be charitable, public or private sector, or a partnership. Entries should be about a specific project.

Culture Champion
For creative artists, and workers in creative, cultural or leisure businesses or organisations in D&G.

Tourism Champion
For success in a tourism business which puts D&G on the map and /or contribution and dedication to promoting the tourism sector and the region.

We'd really appreciate your support this year, in particular for the dedication and hard work shown by the festival committee, so please take a moment to submit your nomination and let's celebrate the fantastic work and events that Wigtownshire has to offer.

6th annual music festival

The 6th annual Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival will take place over 12th-14th July 2019 and, after another outstanding programme of events in 2018 which saw us hosting Scottish Highland Dancing competitions and, as ever, some of the biggest names in traditional music, it looks set to be another packed programme and is really living up to it's reputation as one of the best rural arts festivals in Dumfries & Galloway.
