Catch exciting young fiddle player and BBC Radio Scotland's Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2017, Charlie Stewart, accompanied by the fantastic Becky Hill on harp who open our Saturday night finale concert in style.
BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award semi-finalists Becky Hill and Charlie Stewart are traditional musicians studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Their music is a mix of Traditional, contemporary and original material in arrangements that feature rich harmonies and exciting new textures.
As well as Scottish harp Becky also studies piano and has a keen interest in composing and arranging for a variety of instruments.
Charlie, who recently gained the title of Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2017, also studies Jazz Bass at the RCS, and can be found performing with bands such as 'Dosca', 'Sketch', 'Snuffbox' and 'Ross Miller and Charlie Stewart'.
2018 sees the 5th anniversary of Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival and we're pulling out all the stops to deliver another outstanding event in Wigtownshire. This year sees us host officially registered Scottish Highland Dancing competitions and, as ever, some of the biggest names in traditional music who will be performing over the 3 days. We have the bubbly on ice and can't wait to see you all again in Galloway. The tunes last year were just mighty!
